Honda Hybrid & Electric vehicle (EV) Guide

Honda has worked on a variety of electrified models throughout the years, with more on the horizon. As the automotive landscape is continually electrified, and more technologies and acronyms come about, we prepared this guide to simplify the jargon and educate you on Honda's Hybrid and Electric Vehicle offerings.

Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV)

A hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) is the form you're probably most familiar with.  HEVs combine gas engines with electric motors to generate electricity as you drive, so they never need to be plugged in.

Honda currently offers the CR-V Hybrid and Accord Hybrid in Canada.

CR-V Hybrid

The 6th generation CR-V is available in a hybrid powertrain that produces 204 horsepower and 274 lb-ft of torque, which is more than any other CR-V in history. Hybrid versions are available on the EX-L and Touring trims.

Accord Hybrid

The Accord is Honda's perennially best-selling midsize sedan due to its outstanding quality, fuel efficiency, packaging, and sophisticated driving dynamics.  Whether you’re commuting in the city or cruising on the highway, the Accord Hybrid ensures a comfortable and environmentally conscious ride.

Civic Hybrid

Honda has recently unveiled the highly anticipated hybrid versions of its bestselling Civic Sedan and Civic Hatchback. These new models combine the Civic’s renowned reliability and performance with the efficiency and eco-friendliness of hybrid technology

Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)

A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle operates in much the same way as an HEV. However, being able to plug in a PHEV to extend the electric-only driving range is what sets them apart.

When in EV mode they produce zero emissions, and when the battery becomes depleted or additional power is required, the vehicle's gas-powered engine automatically kicks in.

This gives you the best of both worlds. Having the ability to cover your commute with pure electric power means your fuel expenses can be significantly reduced while road trips are a breeze with the ability to switch to the engine when needed. There's zero range anxiety with a PHEV!

Battery Electric Vehicles

Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) are what people usually refer to these days when they're talking about EVs. These simply use a rechargeable battery for their power. They don't have fuel tanks of any kind, nor do they emit anything. Honda envisions some fully electric vehicles with a plan to electrify two-thirds of global automobile unit sales in 2030.
